It happened. Emily turned 1. She kept growing up even though I told her not to. And now, I have a 1 year old. Here are some updates on her, along with some of her 1-year pictures!
Hand-foot-mouth disease is going around her daycare. Fingers crossed it skips the infant room and we get out without Em catching it, but from what the pediatrician told us, that stuff spreads like wildfire. Awesome!
She is really into singing all songs with hand movements, so the "Itsy Bitsy Spider," "Pat-a-cake," and "Skinnamarinkydink" are all big hits in our household. Those don't get old quickly at all.
She also very much enjoys drinking out of straws, so we give her water all day long in her very own water bottle. It's crazy to see her little hands holding a water bottle and just drinking from it like she's not a baby.
Everyday she gets a little bit closer to walking. She cruises around on furniture pretty quickly, and has started walking pushing her shopping cart around the living room. Which is exciting and absolutely terrifying. Layla is not amused by this either.
She's quite the chatterbox now. She says "mama," "dada," "layla," "up," "night night," hi," and I swear the other day she said "thank you." And when we were at the zoo this weekend, she repeated after us when we said, "tiger." She also just talks all day long, and she's definitely telling us something, I just have no idea what it is.
She also points at everything. Which meant at the zoo she was pointing at the yak, and the goats, and the lions. Homegirl loved the lions.
We went to the doctor this past Friday, and Emily is looking fabulous. She weighs 23 pounds, 11 ounces and is 30 inches long. She's slowing down a bit growth-wise, but she's still in the 81st-86th percentile for everything. The doctor did mention that she still has a slightly clogged tear duct, which should work itself out within the next couple of months, but if it doesn't by the time she's about 15 months old, we will need to go see a pediatric optometrist. So that's fun.

Even though Em is over a year old, today was her first Easter! Last year Easter fell on March 31, so she missed it. We went out to brunch with some friends and Em met the Easter Bunny at the restaurant. She did well with him, as long as he stayed at a distance. Otherwise she just looked at him blankly, like, "Seriously, bro? I'm too old for this..." That's my girl!
